Populating your 'call to action' page

This page allows you to select the methods of contact that you wish people to use when getting in touch with you, and to set your primary "call to action".

Contact preferences

Header

Within this section you can select which contact options you would like to display in the header of your website.

You may want to keep it simple and just give your main phone number. You may, alternatively, prefer to give people an option of ways to get in touch, or find out more about you, by including your telephone number, email address and links to your social media profiles.

Any social media links will be displayed as icons, within your header.

Custom link/button

  • Custom link

Adding a Custom Link as your "call to action" enables visitors to your site to click through to any chosen website or webpage (e.g. Booking Bug, Opentable or PayPal), as this is the most important thing that you want visitors to your website "to do".

Simply copy and paste the URL of the site where you wish to direct your visitors into the box (not the whole HTML e.g. http://smartlittleweb.com) and ensure that your Preferred Contact Method is set to Custom Link

  • Custom button

Adding a Custom Button as your "call to action" allows you to copy and paste specific code, should you wish to present your visitors with a more "stylised" link to click through to any chosen website or webpage (e.g. Booking Bug, Opentable or PayPal). This is the most important thing that you will want your visitors "to do".

This code will often be provided to you by a third party service you subscribe to, in order to link to their service from your website. Simply go to your provider and search for the code required to 'embed' the link to your website.

Simply copy and paste the code into the Custom button box and ensure that your Preferred Contact Method is set to Custom button.

Preferred contact method

The drop down menu will allow you to select your primary contact method - the one thing you want any visitors to your site to do, whether it's to pick up the phone, drop you an email or complete your contact form.

Preferred contact call to action

The call to action is the phrase that you want to display on your site to give people the instruction of what you want them to do. So, if someone on your website is interested in taking things further then you need to make it really clear to them what they need to do next, e.g. a simple phrase such as "call now", "get in touch", "email us on"....

This gives visitors to your website no doubt whatsoever as to what they should do next.

By clicking on "call to action options" you also get the choice as to where you would like these call to actions to appear.

Contact form

In this section you can add a title for your contact form. Again, this can just be a simple phrase such as "get in touch" or "contact us".

By clicking into the "contact form display options" you can also select where you would like your contact form to be displayed.

You can embed a link to an external contact form builder, e.g. Jotform.co.uk, if you wish. This requires you to access the code to 'embed' your form, from the provider, and simply copy and paste it into your workshop. This code is usually easily found on your providers' website.

Automatic popup

This is where you can create a pop-up that automatically appears on a user's screen after a set period of time, or user action such as leaving the page.

Follow these steps to create an automatic pop-up:

1. In the 'styled content' box, type out the message you wish to appear in the pop-up box.

2. When you're happy with your message, scroll down to the box that says 'Automatic popup rule' and choose a rule. This will determine the time delay before the pop-up appears on the user's screen.

3. Click the preview button (eye icon) to view your site and test the popup.

4. If you wish to change the size of the popup, return to the editor and choose a size option from the options under 'maximum width'.

Manual popup

This is where you can create a pop-up that appears when a website visitor clicks on a button.

Follow these steps to create a manual pop-up:

1. Scroll to the top of the 'call to action' page. Underneath 'header' tick the box that says 'manual popup'.

2. Scroll down to the 'manual pop up' area. Fill in the box that says 'default button text' with what you want the button to say, for example 'Book a demo'.

3. In the box titled 'styled content' type the text you wish to appear in the pop-up, after the user clicks on your button.

4. If you would prefer a website to appear in the pop-up, for example a booking page on another website, paste the URL into the box that says 'URL (web address)'.

5. Click the preview button (eye icon) to preview the site and test the button.

6. If you want to change the size of the button, go back to the editor and choose a different size from the 'maximum width' drop-down menu of sizes.

Adding an email sign-up form into a popup

You may wish to have your sign-up form in either a manual or automatic pop-up to collect email leads via your website.

Follow these steps to do so:

1. You will first need to create the form you wish to appear within your email client, for example Mailchimp or Aweber. Choose the 'naked form' design option, which means when you put the form on your website it will inherit the website's existing colours and styles.

2. Once you've finished the form you'll be presented with the form code. Copy the entire piece of code.

3. Go back to your workshop, choose whether you want a manual or automatic pop-up (see above), then navigate to the corresponding box that says 'styled content'.

4. Click on 'Tools' > 'source code', then paste in the code and click 'ok'.

5. If you chose automatic pop-up you'll need to scroll down to set the 'automatic popup rule' (the time it takes for the popup to appear on the user's screen). If you chose manual pop-up you'll need to scroll up to enter the 'button text'.

6. Click the preview button (eye icon) to see your pop-up by either clicking on the button (manual popup), or waiting the time period you selected in the automatic popup rule box.If you chose the popup to appear 'when a visitor tries to leave your site', you'll have to move your mouse towards the 'back' button on the screen, as if you were a visitor leaving your site.

If you can't see your manual pop-up, make sure you have ticked the box that says 'manual pop up' under 'Header' at the very top of the page.
