An excerpt option allows you to have more control over information which is pulled from one page onto another.
It's worth saying that this section is only really used when our default doesn't work for you, or you want it to look & feel a certain way, or would like to use specific text.
If, for example, you would like a link to your About Us page to exist on your Homepage, basically providing visitors with a brief introduction and a direct link to this page, you can control what your visitors see using these excerpt options.
You can select the image to use, add a heading and add some brief introductory text.
It's best not to be too wordy in the introductory text - it's just an appetiser for visitors who will then hopefully click through to the page to read more.
